My understanding of the eBay rules, Steve, is a seller must cancel all existing bids before ending the auction early if he is not going to sell the lot. If it's ended early with bids outstanding, he is obligated to sell to the high bidder.

I don't see that all bids were cancelled on this lot, and suspect that the high bidder could get the lot if he pressed his case.
