Auction Reports

Gaming Archaeology's catalog for auction No. 25 is in the mail. 435 lots in this one. Featured property is the Red Rooster in Las Vegas, with their $5 chip included, with estimate of $350-500. This place has been around since 1931, with different names in later years such as Hi-Ho Club, the Patio, The Rendezvous, and Gracie Hayes Lodge.

Other featured chips on the cover are:

Al Cooper's Beachcomber- never opened under this name but probably used at the Polynesian.

Wilbur Clark's Desert inn $500 tan/blue/org hot stamp, estimated at $500+

$25 El Cortez conquistador design and the $5 blue hot stamp Large Crown.

A notched $25 Flamingo Capri.

An old Flamingo inlaid roulette.

The $100 Golden Nugget from the mid fifties.

A 50c and $5 chip from the Green Shack where Howard suggests you go for fried chicken.

The Last Frontier $5 chip from the 21 Club. Metal wafer inlay estimated at $400-500. The $100 chip is also there for those with a smaller budget <?>.

There's a $100 chip from Joby's Monte Carlo in Crystal Bay, and a $25 Khoury's El Rancho Rio, Las Vegas, with a $500-750 estimate.

Thre are several N.D. Las Vegas Club chips with Large Crown molds that I assume are roulettes.

There's an interesting $5 Mt Charleston Lodge with Zig Zag mold.

There are two 40's chips from the Players Club, Las Vegas that I've never heard of ($5 and $25 denoms).

In the misc. category are a number of chip manufacturers' samples, some Cuban and other caribbean island chips, and a handful of UFC's for those who think they can find the source.

As is often the case, there are several that I think are wildly overvalued, and several where the cataloger has not kept up with escalating prices. That's what makes an auction interesting <g>. For token collectors there are 15-20 older tokens included, including some drink, freeplay, and other misc tokens.

For $2.50 collectors, there is a Lady Luck frog chip and an Old Reno, plus the Binion's set of Poker champions.
