Travis, I was the Gaming Industry Specialist (IRS) who struck the deal with the Horseshoe a few years ago to allow this fine poker tournament to continue. The deal that was struck was with the Binion"s Corporation - therefore the World Series of Poker name belongs ONLY to the Corporation. Whoever would want to carry on the WSOP would have to obtain the name from the Binion's Corporation. If they choose not to sell or allow another house to "use" it - it will die! In addition, the IRS "deal" WOULD NOT transfer with the name.
Another point - The Fremont Street Experience was working because of the Horseshoe. If the Horseshoe cuts back on its poker room and changes anything the players will not play there.
I know Jack Binion for over 20 years and I also knew his father for over 25. The WSOP was started by the old man when Nick the Greek played John Moss many years ago to take the first WSOP champion title. Johnny Moss was bankrolled by old man Binion. For anyone to claim "they" are returning Binions back to the good old days is just not borne out by the facts.
I honestly believe downtown Las Vegas is NOW on borrowed time. Binion's Horseshoe will never be the same. Jack's sister will not be able to run the Horseshoe the same way or better than Jack did. To think she can is wishing upon a star. Best, Jim
