Most chips look better after cleaning and using a mild cleaning solution for a short period of cleaning time should not hurt the chip. Just be carefull with old hot stamped chips and don't soak them too long. I have never heard of chips fading after cleaning as described above. I do have a few chips that look like someone tried to soak them clean. They look faded (the base material not the inlay) but they are not Chipcos.
