Re: Four Queens Half Dollar Token l967

I haven't seen a half dollar token in use in Nevada in about 25 years, Chuck. These were in use for only a year or two when there was a coin shortage in the 1960's. The 4Q token was made in brass and came in production strikes for use on the tables and machines, and in proof and proof-like issues for collectors who subscribed to the Franklin Mint collector sets. There were 10,000 made for table use and about 2000 for the collectors. My understanding is that the Nevada Gaming Control Baord withdrew the permit to use these private "coins" when there were again sufficient halves available from the banks but I don't have a date for this.

I see that Caesars Palace had a half dated 1971 but that's the latest I'm aware of.

Retail seems to be in the $5-10 range with some of the more historic clubs selling for more.

I'd appreciate hearing from others who have information on the early years of token production and use.
