My Caesars Palace Boxing story…

…Is below.

It was 1982 & my friend, John “The Boxer” Duarte & I decided to go to a heavyweight championship boxing 🥊 match at Caesars Palace. They had a special that if you showed your license as proof, that you were a Nevada resident, you could buy a ticket to the fight for just $10!

We could not pass that up, even if they were nosebleed seats. We get there & walk all the way up to our seats. As always, the championship match would be the last fight of the night. There were 4 preliminary fights before that. As soon as the first preliminary fight starts, John & I started working our way down to better seats. I guessed that the no shows were a number of comped seats by Caesars. They were probably still gambling.

By the time the championship fight was going to start, John & I had made our way down to the 8th row. 😊 Perfect seats for watching the fight. The two fighters were Mike Weaver, the champion & Michael Dokes. It was going to be a great fight & we were really looking forward to it. They ring the bell 🛎️ for the start of the fight.

About 30 seconds later, Dokes knocks out Weaver & is the new heavyweight champion! 😳 John & I had spent all of our time, working our way down to the perfect seats & the fight is now over in the first round. 🥲

I have not been to another fight since then. 😆
