Pioche is one of my favorite small towns. It was a violent place when
silver was discovered in the 1860s and 72 people were killed in gunfights
before anyone died of natural causes. I first visited the Alamo in 1969 and
remember one 21 game but never saw it open. The place was owned by
Ernie Ferri for many years and one time he took me in the liquor storeroom
which was completely dug out of the dirt hillside behind the club. He showed
me a box full of Alamo chips and let me dig through it and keep what I wanted.
The place is now called the Bank Club.
