I remember playing the old Pace and Mills machines at the Sparks Nugget
in the sixties including four machines that operated with a single handle
called the Frankenstein. Frank Polk, who carved the one arm bandit slots,
created the $40,000 Golden Rooster that was later confiscated by the
government for containing too much gold. He was able to convince them
it was a work of art before retuning it to the Nugget. Last Chance Joe was
modeled after a local character called Bad Water Bill whose real name was
Arnold Fryk. Dick Graves also hired him as the official greeter at the Nugget.
