Re: MY CHIP FOR TODAY
In Response To: MY CHIP FOR TODAY ()

The Hawthorne Club dates back to the thirties when it was a
billiard club. I was told that Pick Hobson had the games there
during WWII and remember him saying there was so much
money around they had to empty the drop boxes halfway
through the swing shift. I remember when they still had a
21 game in the sixties and asking the owner for old chips.
He went in the basement and got me a half dozen or so of
them. There was a curvy bar made out of some kind of
special hard wood. The place was actually pretty classy. It
was torn down many years ago to make way for some project
that never happened. The large vertical sign is at the north
end of town.
