Fred, I’m the guy responsible for the creation of the Reno Dollar. In the 70s I
partnered with Cliff McDonald who was the creator of the Las Vegas Dollar and
owned a coin and jewelry shop on Fremont st. called Coins and Gifts International
where he sold them in belt buckles and keychains. I was supposed to peddle the
Reno Dollars to shops in Reno. I forget all the details but I soon lost interest in the
project and just gave some of the coins to collectors. I had them struck in two
different metals-photo shows what I have left. Cliff eventually sold LV dollars to
various hotel gift shops with their own logo. Cliff also claimed to be the originator of
the dice clock but there were a couple other guys who claimed the same thing. He
passed away many years ago.
