I covered the Mapes in a short video a few years ago and wanted to go back and give it a more detailed look.
The new video covers the 1947 opening, what the hotel and Sky Room were like, its connection to The Misfits, the casino's financial problems, and the preservation fight before the 2000 demolition. There's also a section on the employees and how the glamorous version of the hotel wasn't everyone's experience.
It's about 30 minutes, with my narration over historical photos and archival footage.
Did anyone here visit the Mapes, work there, or have family who did? I'd really like to hear their memories.
