I thought now would be a good time to share my final collection and how its going. The theme for this one is simply Nevada (non Vegas) inlay chips between 1950-1965. Normally I discuss the historical context but I actually think there is something else rather cool about this theme. One thing that honestly surprised me as a British person who has been to Nevada only once (to Vegas itself) is just how geographically diverse the state is. I always pictured deserts like in the Cactus Pete chip (or the gorgeous Wagon Wheel chip from 1960 which I sadly do not have). But through collecting I have discovered that there are the cold mountains of Ely or the lush green of Tahoe. I have and continue to learn alot about the geography of Nevada not just American history. I rather like how this geography is explained in the inlays. The chips not only capture a time period but also a slice of the geography. Tahoe/stateline chips capture this particularly well such as the Country Club chip. The Stockmen's chip with its cattle and the Commercial with its bear also shows this vast geography and varying fauna and flora that I never knew existed in Nevada. As a result my dream is to get an Alpine Club chip but its so rare and so far out of my price range. I am also attempting to collect all 1962 series chips from Cal Neva Lodge due to the Frank Sinatra connection. There was a $25 chip on ebay but well above it's real value. In short chips are not merely history, but they contain descriptions of the geography and climate! I have recently slowed down my acquisitions (life and all) but thought I would share. Happy collecting to you all. Some day I shall go to Nevada and maybe do a little trip around the state.
