I remember watching the neon bubbles go up the 80 foot Champagne
Tower when I first visited Vegas in 1965. Built in 1953, it was the
tallest structure in the state and was torn down in 1967. Fats Domino
was featured there in the 60s and 70s. There was a small circular
bar on the casino floor and he played alone on a small stage in the
center of it. I actually worked as a busboy at the Flamingo for a week
in 1967 before getting a job shilling downtown.
