…As a kid in the early 60’s I would spend the Summers in Chicago, working in my Aunt Angie’s & Uncle Vic’s restaurant on Dearborn in Downtown Chicago.
One day around 1963 a regular customer of the restaurant came in & asked my Aunt for a $600 loan. He put up 22 Horseblankets as collateral. They were all in excellent to uncirculated condition. I was always fascinated by them every time my Aunt brought them out. The guy never did pay back the loan & the Horseblankets were my Aunts.
She passed away in 1998. About two weeks later my Mom had me over to her house. She said she had something for me. She brought out the book my Aunt kept the Horseblankets in & gave it to me. My Aunt had told her she wanted me to have them.
Here is another one from the collection.
