The Desert Spa started out as a motel in 1947 along with
the El Playtel. A casino was opened in 1958 but only lasted
a couple of months. I remember buying a full box of the $5
chip you show as well as the $25 all uncirculated from Al
Luckman at the old Gamblers Book Store. The property is
now a strip mall where Mr. Sy’s was located.
