While I was inventorying the club storage units, I came across this box of slabbed coins. I figured they were a lost donation and asked the current and previous board if they knew why we had them and what we should do about them.
David Spragg chimed in and said that these were intended to be examples of slabbing used to show people why it was a bad idea (not sure what year this was).
It was suggested we just throw them into the auction to get rid of them, so here we are. Originally, when I wasn't sure we'd get 200 auction items, I had each of these coins listed individually with a starting bid of $1 (mostly just to generate a donation for the club). Once I received enough "good stuff", I combined the coins into single lots by denomination.
We have SO much stuff in inventory that are duplicates or damaged or not-quite-casino-related that we can and should auction off. I'm hoping this online auction goes well and members would like to see us hold more of these throughout the year.
Hopefully, someone will see some value in these coins and buy the poo poo. Keep in mind our auction is not just exclusively for our members. ANYONE searching the Hibid.com auctions can see and bid on these items.
