() I patronized the California Club in 1967 when I worked
at the Golden Gate and don’t remember any of that stuff
on your matchbook. I’m guessing it was there in the fifties
or early sixties. Back then downtown was the only place
the locals had to go and the California Club was ALWAYS
packed. I don’t think I ever got a seat at the bar. The last
owner was Frank Schivo (pronounced Skee-vo) but I never
met him. After the joint closed, the chips were sold to
collectors. I remember a large display showing all the
different chips (at the Coin Castle, i think) and you could
buy all you wanted.
