() The original Club Harlem operated at the site of the old Peavine
Club on Peavine st.(now Evans ave.) from 1945-1947. Owner
Bill Bailey moved it to the Douglas Alley location in 1948 where
it operated until 1968 when it became the Soul Club until 1977.
Owner Norval Embry was killed in a car crash in 1974 and his
brother Armster took over. I remember going in the Soul Club
around 1970
and buying chips off the lone 21 game that
still used Club Harlem chips. Bill Bailey favored wearing cowboy
boots which would explain the boot on the $5 chip.
