My in-laws live in West Texas, about 30 miles north of Abilene, which is one of the hottest and driest parts of that state. For years, a mama Killdeer chose to build her nest right in the middle of a country road intersection near their home.

Thankfully, the locals knew she was there and kept an eye out, and she managed to avoid traffic from the occasional passerby.
