It seems it was just six months ago that I went down to the Golden Nugget to acquire their new $1 and $2 chips. Tonight I’m making my rounds on Fremont St and had to look on Chipguide because I couldn’t believe that I was seeing what appeared to be yet another generation of $1 and $2 chips. The GN has gone “all in” on side bets on every single table. No matter what the game. They have even resurrected ‘Let it Ride’ under a new name: ‘Take Two Back’ (???) with three different side bets! I have played ten card poker in Kathmandu, Nepal, but this was so complicated, I had a problem figuring it out. I’d like to have been a fly on the wall during the board meeting when they decided all this. Bad news is that the new ones are mixed with the old ones. Good news is that they are easily spotted in the racks by their edge lettering, so you don’t have to belly up to a table unless you see a healthy population of new ones, which varied. Some tables had plenty, some next to none.
