
() I was working at the Golden Gate in 1967 across the
street from the UP station and adjacent bus depot and
remember it well. There was a park in front and in the
summer all the bums would lay out on the grass. Some
of them would take off their shoes but had a to be on the
lookout for other bums who would steal them. I watched
the Union Plaza being built and worked there dealing craps
from 1973 to 1975. Jimmy Young (old Monte Carlo owner)
had a Faro game there and wanted me to break in dealing
but I foolishly turned him down! Some of the original owners
were from Omaha and the lounge was named after it. Sam
Boyd was always walking around. All the 21 dealers were
women and they were required to wear hot pants (remember
those?) The floormen loved it. It was a fun place to work.
