Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate you digging into the numbers. I believe you’re one of the most engaged Membership Directors I’ve seen during my time here. My question was meant more as inspiration than criticism. I also recognize that what we’re currently doing makes it difficult to truly measure results. Keep up the great work.
As for the discussion around monetizing the ChipGuide as a meaningful revenue source, I worry we may be stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime. Retention is important, but I believe growth has to be the bigger focus. Some of the incremental changes can come across as nickel-and-diming, especially from the perspective of someone outside the club.
Personally, I’d rather see us keep the guide as open and accessible as possible while we develop a more comprehensive long-term plan—one that clearly defines features, access, and value. Once that plan is in place, we can implement it thoughtfully.
I also think how we present ourselves publicly is critical. To non-members, our image matters. Conversations about internal challenges are important, but they may be better suited for the club’s member-only areas. In the public space, I believe our focus should be on highlighting the benefits of membership and the positive aspects of the club to attract new collectors.
Just my thoughts
