I got back into the chip hobby because of the chipguide. I discovered chips from the Sands I had no idea existed, I was able to date chips I had acquired etc. I also collect pokemon like a lot of my generation does. I can for free search up card numbers and see the set they are in, the number of graded cards and the distribution of grades. In truth however I think people are more prone to using facebook or numerous forums for chip identification rather than searching through the chipguide. Therefore it appears that the chipguide is pricelocked not to encourage people to join the cca but to give value to those already in it. If further features of the chipguide ever were pricelocked, I feel that would hurt retention in the hobby rather numbers joining the hobby who turn to social media first (the facebook groups regularly have people asking for chip ids). Just some thoughts of mine
