Re: Wake Up Call [sigh]
In Response To: Wake Up Call ()

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry. My dear Jerry. You're really all over the map on this post.

First off, you don't get to dictate what the current board (or I) determine to be priorities for the club. You had your chance and maybe you'll have the chance again down the road to lead the club as you see fit, but that time isn't now.

My goal is to improve the overall appeal of the club to non-members and keep the club solvent. As such, one of my primary goals was to stop the club from continuing to bleed $20k/yr, something that was happening during your tenure and you didn't notice it or didn't care to fix it. As the current President, I am the one who had to take the brunt of unpopular opinion, bite the bullet and take all the heat for being the bad guy that got rid of the club magazine (not really, but some have portrayed it as such). This one thing alone has obviated the need to find FIVE HUNDRED NEW MEMBERS to finance this shortfall. I don't care how good a recruiter you are, you ain't finding 500 new members to cover that gap.

BUT, with the new magazine format, the anticipated greater revenue from the club auction, getting rid of the 3rd storage unit (another expenditure incurred by your administration, and from what I understand, your hand specifically), and other cost savings, the club can last indefinitely, even with no new members joining.

BUT ALSO, by adding more member benefits such as restricting the use of the Chip Guide, there are more reasons for people who were enjoying the benefits of what the club offers without contributing to same to get off the sidelines and become members. You won't know this until after the convention, but non-members who make purchases in the club auction will pay up to 10% more in buyers premiums versus members. $1,000 in hammer price is $100 in buyers premium to a member, but $200 to a non-member. Don't you think it would be wise for those interested in bidding to become a member for $40 to save $100? And get the club magazine as part of the deal? And get access to the ChipGuide as well?

I don't know what you mean by Registration reset. If you mean my intention to allow people to register electronically before and during the convention, then yes, I think it WILL generate additional members because we will be asking for more information in the registration process, make it easier for people to provide that information, and allow more accurate logging of this information for follow up with attendees in the future through the opt-in contact process. It also allows us to move away from the binary "are you in Nevada or outside Nevada" marketing (we've only asked what state someone's from in the past) to "give us your zip code" so we can perform targeted facebook ads in areas that have demonstrated interest in our hobby. Electronic registration speeds up the process as well, allowing attendees to forego the handcramps of writing long hand, allowing registration staff to not have to interpret bad handwriting, cause fewer typos, and print legible, color-coded nametags with the click of a button. This allows dealers to read a potential customer's name from 20 feet away, helping them generate sales. It puts attendees at ease and gives the club a more professional demeanor.

I don't know what silence from Jim you're referring to. He attended the meet & greet and answered the same questions asked of everyone else. If you would like to hear his answers to your questions, pose them. Or email him. You didn't ask anything specific in this post, that's for sure.

As for the sandbagger comment, that was a friendly little dig to get you to compete with Dan, who is sitting well ahead of everyone else in the new member recruitment effort. What I said in email to you, after you said you were going to withdraw your efforts to recruit new members because you were mad (at me), I said I wouldn't blame you if you did. If you have new members for the club, sign 'em up. I won't blame you for that, either. I called dibs on anyone who signs up as a new member to get the buyer's premium discount since the online auction is my brainchild, so I might just shoot past Dan myself at the last minute.

Anyway, I don't care who you vote for, but please PLEASE P-L-E-A-S-E stop with the namecalling, denigration, and negativity. This has to be my Nth request to you on this matter and I'm sure it won't be my last, but I gotta keep asking you anyway.
