I'm not speaking for him, but Archie may be recalling an incident some years ago (back when he was still President, or maybe not that far?)
We had a "party crasher", I'll call him, that tried to get in under an assumed name as he was sort of a persona non grata to the club. The details are hazy as I wasn't involved & it was quite a while ago. An isolated incident though.
But on another note, there are some pretty valuable chips, etc. on the show floor, and it wouldn't be good if someone tried to take a "five finger discount" from the dealers. If so, at least we might be able to match a name & face with an incident ... though it's primarily up to the dealers to protect their offerings.
The few coin shows I've been to have required name & photo ID, and it was explained to me that it's a security protocol. Better to deter something beforehand than deal with it afterwords.
