() There are ways to bring out the date with acid, but still, they are pretty common, except for a few specific dates, and those would need to be unaltered. But found in circulation sure is fun, like it used to be.
If I find a wheat cent, that's uncommon. They aren't rare or valuable, but still. Fun
I know you look and silver coins do appear now and then. War nickels, I used to pick them from slot machines when we used coins. I made a collection of Jefferson's about 25 years ago, just as a challenge, all machine used, but from playing slots. The thing is, all of those coins are still out there, because Jefferson Nickels aren't really collectible or rare.
Something you can find in circulation, if you have better eyes (which I don't)
"In 2019, the U.S. Mint created quarters bearing the W mint mark (West Point) directly into general circulation for the first time in history. Only 2 million of each of the five 2019 designs were produced with W mint marks, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 50 State Quarters Program. The 2019-W quarters honored Lowell, American Memorial Park, War in the Pacific, San Antonio Missions, and Frank Church River of No Return."
2019 or 2020 W, unless they are graded high, $8 to $20 is a realistic value. But still, if you find one in your pocket?
I'm personally collecting the Presidential Dollars. I buy rolls once a year and go through. I'm missing three. Starting in 2012 they were made but only sold from the mint, but they do appear in "circulation". I have never found a Presidential Wife but some day I will. I do have George Bush, 2,744,700 made. Considering they are not released to circulation, that means, many in Mint State of some minimal worth are in boxes and drawers, somewhere.
I asked a dealer if I could trade the ones I have that weren't released for the ones I don't have, and he said they are too heavy to ship. I think that is a good indication of the demand and the market values. I collect from circulation, and look forward to next December when I buy another 2-4 hundred dollars worth from the bank, to search.
Watch for those W quarters!
