What's in a number?

This isn't the first group I've been a member of, that wanted people to pay for all their past years, to get their member number back. I don't know why? The SCCA is one of them. First off, in that case, we pay to work for nothing as volunteers. I suppose if someone wants their ## years member pin, then that would be a matter of continuous, otherwise it's kind of like, I was a member, then I wasn't and 25 years later I came back... am I a 25 year member? TU

Other than that, I see no reason for paying for years, that someone wasn't a member, wasn't in the club and derived no gain during that time.

In less words, if someone wants to re-join and have their original member number back, Why Not? Just make a note that for the pin, someone in membership will have extra work to keep track of member since "date" minus years, for the club pins.

ps all that what's in a number? I'm a fairly new member, compared to the people who started the club. I only discovered CC>CC in an article in Poker Player Magazine. Things were pretty fast back then, as I was beyond member 1,000 and the club was pretty new. I appreciate the member pins... thanks to whoever came up with that idea.
