Fellow collectors,
There have been some thoughtful posts about membership, retention, and value. Those are important discussions.
I agree that value matters. I agree that engagement matters. I agree that retention matters.
But I believe the larger issue we must confront honestly is renewal.
Many of our long-time members have been with the club for decades. That loyalty is incredible. At the same time, natural attrition is a reality for every organization with an aging base.
Retention alone cannot outpace attrition.
If we are losing members through age or changing life circumstances, we must bring in new collectors at a rate that exceeds that loss.
That requires more than refining internal processes. It requires outward-facing energy. It requires meeting collectors where they already are. It requires visibility, social activity, relevance, and inclusion of all collecting styles.
Value is important. But excitement and relevance bring people in the door.
My focus remains simple:
Grow the base.
Increase visibility.
Strengthen engagement.
Unite collectors.
I believe we can do all of this without drastic disruption, but it will require intentional effort and forward momentum.
Respectfully, and focused on the future,
Dan
