Re: Do the Chipset Builders congrigate/disopay ~~

Hi John,

I’m glad the question keeps coming up about sets collectors from the singles side. That’s healthy.

Many of us are actually “combo” collectors. We collect sets and singles. Over time, a lot of crossover has naturally happened. The idea that these are two separate worlds just isn’t accurate.

As to whether we’re an online-only group, absolutely not. The sets community is extremely social. There are regular home games, regional meetups, and larger annual events. Some draw 40–60 members at a time. We travel long distances, host in our homes, rent venues, and coordinate major gatherings around events like the WSOP. Many of those members attend the CCA convention while they are in town.

We are collectors. We care about history and preservation just like any other chip collector.

Over the last few years I’ve worked hard to encourage sets collectors to look past old divides and participate positively in the CCA. Some have joined. Others are considering it.

Recently, a few members suggested it might be worthwhile to have someone speak at the convention about sets collecting and answer questions. I agreed and was willing to participate in any format, including a panel discussion.

That did not move forward. I was disappointed, because I believe there is genuine interest in the topic and an opportunity to build understanding between communities.

That said, I remain willing to contribute in any constructive way if there is interest from the membership. My goal has always been the same: unite collectors, grow participation, and strengthen the hobby we all enjoy.
