Reno day 120
Sky Tavern Ski Lodge
Mount Rose Hwy
Reno
1946-1950
In the spring of 1945 Keston and Carlisle Ramsey purchased a rustic cabin, with a tow rope, on the Mount Rose Highway near Reno. They converted the cabin into a modern 21-room hotel with a coffee shop, dining room, and bar. More tow ropes and a T-bar were added. The parking lot was graded, a new sewage system and plumbing were installed. A small casino, run by Bill Harrah, was added. The newly christened Sky Tavern opened in December of 1945. Because of the proximity to the Reno airport, the resort quickly became the hot spot for Hollywood celebrities, including Mr and Mrs Gary Cooper, Rita Hayworth, Ingrid Bergman, Robert Stack, and Andy Devine.
