I remember staying at Mizpah and playing in the casino in
the 60s. I hit a four spot keno ticket and shot quarter
craps on a tub where the dealer knocked down any roll that
didn’t hit the end. I guess he thought everyone was a
crossroader. One time I hit a $107 progressive jackpot
on an old Mills machine. Lester Short, the owner took me
in the vault that was his office and gave me some old chips.
He also offered to sell me the place for $400,000. I had
parked my 1951 Chevy in front of the hotel and an overnight
snow storm had completely drifted over it. I couldn’t get it
started so I got a guy at the Shell station to tow it where
it got warmed up. After I got it started I was on my way to
Las Vegas. Fun times.
