The Sands opened in 1965 as an eight unit motel with
no gaming. They added 24 units in 1970 and added
forty slots in a small casino on Arlington Ave that also
had a Denny’s restaurant. They eventually built 100
motel rooms needed for live gaming and added one 21
game in 1972 and a couple more later on. I remember playing
playing there when they used the BC Wills chips. They built
the large hotel and casino after that. The place is now called
the J resort.
