format is twofold.

1) Unfortunately debate formats always seem to lead to negativity. That is something we already have way too much of and want to avoid it as much as possible

2) We now have 3 different contested elections comprising of 8 candidates. That would mean 3 separate debates and honestly, I really don't have time for that. I may feel differently if we were talking about just one position, but with 3 that have multiple candidates, it seems like a lot.

I appreciate the kind words and as I mentioned in my post, I am actually friends with every candidate running so wish good luck to all.
