The Ponderosa was built on the former site of the Lone
Star Ranch, (a dude ranch in the forties). I’d visit occasionally
but it was away from the downtown area and had problems
with accounting and gaming. At one time they went smokeless
to attract business but it didn’t help much. Harold Smith liked
to play low limit 21 there in his “retirement”. The place is now a
strip joint.
