*The Owl Club was reported to be the first location in Nevada to be issued a gaming license when gaming was legalized in 1931. The Owl Club had been open since 1917, and had operated poker games there for several years. When gaming became legal in 1931, casino games were added. The first license was issued for one roulette game, one craps game, one 21 game, one stud poker game, and four slot machines (two nickel, one dime, and one quarter machine).

NOTE: I'm not sure exactly how this meshes with The Northern Club, in Las Vegas, having gaming license #1...but I do know that different entities issued licenses, when gambling was first legalized. So I kind of figure that the Owl Club was the first license issued in Reno, and the Northern Club was the first license issued in Las Vegas.
