() Here's my point of view and I know that some others are far different. Everyone is welcome to their own opinion and perspective.
I'm a collector, not a dealer or investor. I want to find chips for my collection. I don't want to drive prices up, or make the chip collecting a tool for profits or for dealers or somehow, have slabbing change the collectors who appreciate what we collect, into a commodity. I don't do this because I want to make a profit. Other people, that's their only interest.
There's nothing wrong with working for a profit or being a dealer, for profit. That's your own business and motivation. So, no mean words for turning casino collecting from, a friends, and hobby, into all about money.
I think sealed, slabbed, high end chips, could have a place. Just like they do in bank notes or coins. There are still detractors in those areas, because it removes the personal contact. If that means anything to anyone.
I don't want to see the hobby turn into an investment, instead of an enjoyable pastime, and I don't want to own them. There's always the question of who's the "expert" and honestly how do you grade a compression molded bit of clay and plastic. Who going to monitor and watch the grading service? We've already seen a slippery slop with coins. Break them out, have them re-graded, until you find a higher value with a higher grade. Will encapsulating actually harm the chips?
But I'll go back to, I'm open minded to others and their viewpoints or motivations. I'm just personally against slabbing chips.
