Re: Club Monaco (NOT Monoco) California

Hi Jeff, Thanks for updating on the ChipGuide. I did submit the "Club Monaco, Ocean Park" graphic on the submissions page, so yes, you can use it.

I would probably classify it as Non-Casino/Other. I think the chips were used somehow in those skill games that were quasi-gambling. Either buy-in chips (money-substitute, rather than paper tickets?), payouts to accumulate for prizes (like the Circus Circus "prize unit" chips?) or even for markers on a game board (like the Lightning Bingo game that was short-lived in one of the Reno casinos - maybe Fitzgerald's?). We'll probably never know, though I think one hint is the 5-colors ordered for both the "OP-elephant" chips and for the "J" chips. Perhaps 5 different concessions/games that could be bought and redeemed at a central cash booth? Just impossible to pin down.

I'm guessing that Max Kleiger's operation may have been similar to Harrah's earlier game concession. Harrah may have operated a Tango game (early / alternate name for Bingo) and I recall something called the "Circle Game" but I don't recall the source now. Anyway, we don't have any of his Venice CA stuff anyway -- wish we did! Of course, opening a Bingo parlor in Reno is how Bill Harrah started when he moved there. Later expanding to full casino operations over time.
