When the Golden Nugget Corp (meaning Steve Wynn) decided on "The Mirage" name, they had to "buy" the name from La Mirage, the small off-strip property, so there was no litigation / confusion with the 2 names.

La Mirage changed names to Anthony's, and I'm sure the owners had ample extra cash in their pocket, even after all the signage was changed.
