I noticed some discussion about the Pioneer dime chips
the other day. The Pioneer used to hire break in dealers
and they trained them on low limit games at the hotel
(formerly Elwell). I remember dime craps and 21 where
they used black chips. They also had penny roulette. I
never saw any other color dimes chips used anywhere.
There were never any dime crap games on Fremont St.
that I remember, they were all quarters and the Pioneer
had orange chips. Perhaps dime craps existed before I
got to town in the mid sixties. By the way, I remember
Vegas Vickie dealing 21 at the hotel. She actually ran
cocktails at club on Fremont st. where I’m sure she made
away more tokes.
