I think some of this is overstated

I understand why anyone who watches this board and the club membership numbers assumes that the hobby is rapidly dying, but anyone who spends significant time on social media and other, more modern, forums knows that there are a ton of younger people collecting casino memorabilia and a lot of them are collecting chips. And no, they are not all set collectors, although I see nothing wrong with that and have never understood the chasm between the two groups. Not only are there younger people out there buying chips in places like Facebook, they are willing to pay prices you would be shocked by for pretty common chips. I have seen a major uptick in people bidding for the chips I want in the last 3-5 years on ebay as well. I think there is a false perception from many who are only engaged in this hobby in a limited way. I am not sure how to bring those people together with these people, but all of the evidence I see suggests that there are plenty of younger people who collect, and collect casino chips. As many as 2006? Probably not, but I am sure there are enough to keep this hobby for a long time.
