The wide rims I had all had fractures in the ring area and I was told by both Kenny Craig and Ken Chopping that it isn't uncommon for the chip to fracture in that area due to the greater distance of the ring being from the edge. The fracture can be seen when the chip is held up to a light as the light passes through.
