I lived in Henderson in the early 70s and remember going to the
grand opening of the Rainbow Club that just celebrated their 58th
anniversary. I patronized the Lucky Club and Cowboy Gene’s but the
Royal and Wheel, which later moved to where the Skyline is now were
closed. There were a bunch of joints on Boulder Hiway that I patronized.
Ligouri’s, which was in an old house, only had poker. The Victory Club
was just a bar with no gambling and was next to the closed Magnesium
Club. I knew the guy who had the old Hut club that was later owned by
Jim Thorpe. Next door was the Jolly Jug, later Vic’s Jolly Jug and then
Boo Bee’s, a topless joint with an amusing sign. I liked the Swanky Clu
where Joker’s Wild is now. They had one 21 table and Frankie Carr, an old
lounge performer, would deal and occasionally break into song. The Bingo
Barn was formerly a grocery store in what was originally Pittman.
