ChipGuide Tip - Get Unexpected Home Page

If you request a restricted page on the ChipGuide, sometimes you may get the Home Page instead of the page you requested. A restricted page is one that requires you to be logged on in order to access it. Here is an explanation of why this occurs and how to fix it.

The Fix: Clear your browser's ChipGuide cache.

Explanation: Most likely, at one time, you tried to access the restricted page when you were not logged. When this happens, the ChipGuide gives you the home page. It is a security feature. The browser "remembers" the response from that time and shows you the home page. To be efficient, browsers show results from cache, if they have them, rather than sending a new request to the server. Clearing cache will make the browser forget the response and provide the restricted page from the ChipGuide instead of what is in cache.

FIX #2 - If clearing cache does not work, there is a second fix. The 2nd fix is to circumvent the browser's cache by modifying the request. Just add "?x=x" to the end of the request. For example: If you were trying to view What's New, the request is:

http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_news.php

Modify the request to:

http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_news.php?x=x
(adding "?x=x" to the end of the request)
