Pam, Once again thanks for the memories. McDermitt, NV. another great little town in the middle of no-where. Well it was about 1994, I was on another road trip in Nevada looking for antique slot machines, gaming devices, casino/ old club chips and dice. I was staying in Winnemucca and had heard the Say When Casino was in the process of changing their chip rack. So I decided to make the trek up to McDermitt, knowing that this would an adventure.

Next day bright and early I started the trip, about 2+ hours on a very bad road in the middle of no-where. Got to McDermitt and found the Say When really easy to find, it was pretty much the only place in town that was open. Went into the place, absolutely no one inside, except a middle aged man at the bar. Asked for the manager, his response was there was no manager, but he was the owner. So after a few beers and a nice conversation. He invited me to the basement to show me his obsolete casino chips. I asked If I could buy some of his LG-KEY chips, that he was replacing. He told me he was not willing to sell any chips at this time. But, considering that I was willing to drive all the way up here. He pulled 4 $25 and 10 $5 chips from the boxes in the safe, ang gave them to me. He then put a bottle of Jack on the table and said let's have a drink. I thanked him, but refused the drink, knowing I would never get back to Winnemucca, and headed back.

In my conversations with this owner he mentioned to me that his father was a good friend of Bud Soper. I told him that I had recently bought pretty much all the gaming chip and dice inventory at Bud Soper's Mongomery Pass Casino. When I got back home to Calif. I mailed the owner 2 complete set's of Montgomery Pass Lodge chips and a box of dice. We stayed friends for many years.
