The Silver Dollar Bar started out as a Bank in 1880 and later
became a soft drink parlor. I remember playing the several dozen
Jennings slots at the bus depot. The live games, lounge, and
famous bar have been removed at the Commercial Hotel. About
all that remain is the 10 foot 2200 lb. Polar bear. The Stockmens
Hotel was originally the Mayer Hotel. The Polk machines were destroyed
in a fire. I remember when the trains ran down Railroad st. before
they were moved. There were a lot of neat bars downtown. I
especially liked the 449er. Doby Doc lived in Elko where he acquired
a lot of stuff he eventually moved to to the Last Frontier Village in
Las Vegas.
