I recently spent a day in Lovelock (July) and was saddened
by what I saw or should say what I didn’t see. The entire
downtown, except for the old bank, is gone. The few buildings
that were left after Felix’s was torn down were destroyed in
a fire ten years ago. Two Stiffs and the Western Club are gone.
A Family Dollar store occupies the site of a the Big Meadow.
Sturgeon’s which became the C-Punch is now the Black Rock
Grill. There’s a neat museum, the Marzen House, that has some
Felix’s stuff. Most of the people who live there are in ranching
or mining. There’s a small slot casino and convenience store
across the tracks.
