The Nevada Hotel and the Owl have been around since the
1870s. The PCs show some of the changes. You can see the
little Owl in the 3rd card on the left side. Butch Hinman
ran it for 36 years and I remember when they had 21,
craps and roulette. I was in Itza’s bar in the Commercial
Hotel one day and asked the owner about old chips. He
took me across the street to an old garage where there
we’re .25, .50, $1 and $5 chips scattered all over the dirt
floor and said to help myself to them. One time a guy shot
his wife as she dealt 21 at the Nevada Hotel. I remember sitting
around Jaramillo’s Silver Dollar Bar all afternoon waiting for the
owner to show up an give me a set of his obsolete chips. Fun times.
