Re: The 'back story" on this one...

This is not "official" but putting the pieces of the puzzle together --
Of course, Indian Springs Casino was a tiny casino, but with a few live game tables, plus slots.
Out in the Nevada desert on the way to Area 51.

I think they saw what the tiny, out of the way, Stateline Saloon in Amargosa Valley, NV had done a few years back in creating LE chips which "walked" out the door and into collectors' hands, with Stateline Saloon pocketing the difference in cost-to-make vs. face value on the chips.

Indian Springs' "Moe" is simply their version of the desert prospector that shows up on a number of Nevada chips. The Paulson artists created a whole story of charicature Moe doing different sports as a theme. Moe does various Summer 2000 Olympic sports (curious, since it was in SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA!!!), but all was a lead-up to Moe and the 2002 WINTER Olympics held in Salt Lake City, Utah.

So that's my inferred context on all this. grin

One final trivia note -- regarding all the Stateline Saloon chips that originally walked, when they posted a redemption notice, making all those outstanding chips no longer cashable, I heard (2nd hand) that a lot of them were turned in for cash before the deadline. As for the Indian Springs "Moe" series, I don't know if a lot of them were turned back in or not.

The rise & fall of the over-production (IMO) of LE chips during the decade or so of their heyday, and the consequence of it all vis-a-vis the chip collecting hobby, is a story that should get an airing at some point. JMHO though. grin

So, was that TMI???
