After speaking with David, I better understand the dynamics of “the chip guide” vs. “chipguide.com”.
David owns the domain Chipguide.com personally, having purchased it from Greg Susong’s widow years ago. The page that comes up when you go to that domain resides on David’s server, and he uses that page to generate advertising revenue, which he is absolutely entitled to do. The CCA does not own the rights to the domain, and cannot force David to give it up or sell it.
The fact is, David has graciously created a page that mimics our own landing page, with some extra links that he has put in place pointing to other sites of interest. There is room for a banner ad at the top of the page, which currently appears to be empty, but David assured me that he does run ads there that generate revenue for him throughout the year.
The super nice thing that David has done is making virtually every link on that page go to the appropriate place in the club’s website. When Charles makes changes, he notifies David and David updates the links as needed.
During the MOGH’s transition to the new server, some links may be out of sync, but those will get resolved in short order.
That is my take on things. David, please chime in if I got anything wrong. Thank you for allowing Chipguide.com to be a good partner of the club.
