In an ad from 9-23-1949, J. KELL HOUSSELS, TUTOR SCHERER & ASSOCIATES advertised the new location of the Las Vegas Club at 18 Fremont Street...the club had been moved across the street, into the Overland Hotel building. As time went on, they expanded into the entire building...and further. By the time the Las Vegas Club closed, in 2015, it occupied most of the block.
In 2015-2016 the Las Vegas Club, Glitter Gulch, The Golden Goose, and Mermaids were closed and demolition began...to be replaced by Circa, which opened in 2020.
It made me kind of sad...my husband and I spent many wonderful vacations in room #1133 at the Las Vegas Club (other rooms too, but that one was my favorite). I loved sitting by the window and looking out onto Fremont Street, watching the people, looking out over the view of the Stardust sign at night, and imagining Las Vegas the way it used to be. We even spent our wedding night there, in a penthouse suite. If I'm being honest, I have to admit that the last time we stayed at the Las Vegas Club, it had changed...it looked neglected, just a ghost of its former self. But room #1133 still had the best shower in the state!
